I was checking into Hughes as an option for the internet..and I was told by an independent sales company to be sure to get the brand new 9000 modem, not any 7000 modem. The 7000 models are connected to the older of the 13 satelittes that Hughes has. New newest satellite and the 9000 modem working together. the 9000 modem will not connect to the older satellites. Some of those satellites are from th 1930’s. Have you ever been informed of that? But, I do have to say..after reading all the comments on these pages..I am not leaning toward any experience with Hughes. I’ll go with the new kid on the block WildBlue. The only offer the 9000 modem simply because their modem works with the latest satellite technology.

HN7000S bad news

It has been a while since posting to this site. I finally got rid of the HN7000 and went back to the DW7000, the service is usable again now. I also dropped the static IP and dropped down a service level. I am now paying about 20% less than I was before and get download speeds about 5 times faster and upload speeds 10 times faster.

I believe Hughes has a problem and of course expecting them to do anything about it is out of the question. It took me a dozen phone calls, untold hours on the telephone, working through outright lies and misleading statements from customer support just to get my service back to where it was BEFORE I paid for the upgrade.

Hughes home satellite service is nothing but consumer fraud.

I wanted to make sure this entry from TDE was posted in the blog and not just in comments so it can be read by all…..

We just got the satellite installed two days ago and we spent the day on the phone with customer service. We are averaging speeds of 230 down and 75 up - and we signed up for the highest speed they provide.

After hours on the phone and a visit by an installer I finally convinced Hughes to let me go back to the DW7000, what a difference. I will detail this experience over the next few days here on this blog. I am convinced at this point Hughes has a big problem with the HN7000S and of course they have no intention of admitting it.

Still looking for a class action law firm.

I have been reading posts on other forums today. I find it interesting that anyone who openly criticizes Hughes is quickly flamed with threats to delete their posts. I believe that Hughes themselves are behind some of these forums. Again I do not believe that I am the only person on their network that consistently gets transfer rates comparable to dial-up. Especially since support seems to be very familiar with the problem.

I have the same problem. Once you are signed up there is nothing that can be done, you are at the mercy of Hughes. I think we should find a law firm that will make this a class action suit.

Today’s speed is 193kbps down and 59kbps up. Please note that is is kilo bits not bytes. Also I have been officially dealing with support for 3 and 1/2 months, yes, months. Their answer is always the same, “Sorry”.

Todays “blazing fast speeds”, downloading at 94Kbps, upload speed 116Kbps. Compared to a 56Kbps dial up at only 10 times the cost.

Thinking about Hughes “Broadband”?

Despite their commercials what Hughes offers is hardly “broadband”, more like “slowband”. Take if from one who knows, you will not be happy. Hughes has oversold their bandwitdth to the point you would will be much better off with a dial-up connection.
